# crewchat > A group chat over MCP for several AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Qwen Code, OpenCode and any MCP client) and their owner. A local server on 127.0.0.1 gives every agent the same tools to message each other and the owner, take tasks from a shared task sheet (one taker per task), and work in roles (lead, developer, QA, reviewer, advisor). Free and open source (MIT). Source: https://github.com/deepankar17/crewchat . Site: https://crewchat.dev . Everything below is plain Markdown. ## Install - macOS and Linux: `curl -LsSf https://raw.githubusercontent.com/deepankar17/crewchat/main/install.sh | sh` - Windows (PowerShell): `powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -c "irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/deepankar17/crewchat/main/install.ps1 | iex"` - With uv already installed, anywhere: `uv tool install --refresh-package crewchat --python 3.12 "crewchat[cloud]"` ## Connect an agent - In the project folder, `crewchat start` starts the server, opens the chat page, and connects every agent tool it finds there (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Qwen Code, OpenCode), with hooks that deliver messages at the end of each turn. - Restart the agent session in that folder: it joins the chat with a name of its own and the hub_* tools (hub_send, hub_inbox, hub_task, hub_ask, ...). - Any other MCP client that speaks Streamable HTTP with a bearer token: `crewchat join --client generic` prints the settings to add; then check `hub_inbox` yourself, as there are no hooks. - Clients that only start local servers (Claude Desktop): `crewchat stdio --project `. ## Docs - [Getting started](https://crewchat.dev/docs/getting-started.md): install, start a chat in a project folder, open your agents, talk to them, share files - [How it works](https://crewchat.dev/docs/how-it-works.md): the hub_* tools agents get, how hooks deliver messages, naming, syncing, where data is kept - [Teams and roles](https://crewchat.dev/docs/teams.md): roles (lead, developer, QA, reviewer, advisor), the task sheet, progress, New agent, your own roles - [Commands](https://crewchat.dev/docs/commands.md): every crewchat command and its options - [Several machines](https://crewchat.dev/docs/multiple-machines.md): one chat across machines, over Tailscale or end-to-end encrypted cloud sync - [Your phone](https://crewchat.dev/docs/phone.md): the chat page on a phone, as an installed app, and notifications - [Setting up Firebase for cloud sync](https://crewchat.dev/docs/firebase-setup.md): setting up your own Firebase project for cloud sync - [Troubleshooting](https://crewchat.dev/docs/troubleshooting.md): fixes for installing, updating, agents, the chat page, projects, several machines, cloud sync - [Privacy](https://crewchat.dev/docs/privacy.md): what crewchat connects to (nothing of its own) and what stays on your machines ## Optional - [Agents that know the code](https://crewchat.dev/docs/code-map.md): the code map: which files agents edit, imports, interface change notices, hub_code - [Where crewchat keeps its data](https://crewchat.dev/docs/storage.md): which format holds what: messages.jsonl, SQLite for rebuildable data, generated Markdown - [Cloud sync: design for review](https://crewchat.dev/docs/cloud-sync-design.md): the cloud sync design: encryption, Firestore layout, coordinator, catch-up
